Installing bathroom tile can seem like a very difficult job, but if you follow the instructions and take care to prepare the surface properly you can make the job much easier. Whether you are doing a floor or a wall, you need to makesure that the surface is perfectly flat and clean. You should remove any kind of material like wallpaper that won’t allow you to create a good bond with the underlying surface. If you already have tile in that area, don’t attempt to tile over top of it. It is best to remove it and start fresh.

Once you have your surface preparation complete, locate the center of the area you will be working on. You’ll start installing bathroom tile at the center and work your way to the outer edges. Before applying the adhesive, you may want to lay out the tiles to make sure the design ends up the way you want it to.

When you are purchasing your tiles, make sure that you add an additional 20% or so to the surface area you have calculated. You may break tiles when you’re cutting them, and you will have to cut them for the edges so you need to take this into account. It’s also a good idea to have a few extra tiles stored away in case one becomes damaged. When you are purchasing your tiles, you should also ask if they have spacers. If they don’t, you can buy your own.

Once the adhesive has been put down with a notched trowel, you can then place the tiles down. Make sure when installing bathroom tile to push them down hard and wiggle them a little bit so that you get proper adhesion. When they have had a chance to dry overnight, you can then apply the grout. Use a rubber float, and wipe off the excess grout right away. After about an hour or so, you can wipe off the haze left on the tiles with a clean cloth.

If you are planning to do both walls and a floor in a room, make sure to do the walls first. It will be much easier to bring the floor tiles out to the wall than doing it the other way around, and it gives a much better look as well.
